J Ä L J I L L Ä - Environmental Photo Contest


Otsoni ry, the subject association for environmental science and technology, is glad to announce its annual environmental photo contest. The contest is open for students of the University of Jyväskylä. The first prize is a 300 euro gift voucher to Kampus Data store. Pictures must be sent by the 21st of September, 2012.

The theme of the contest is ”small environmental action”. We are hoping to see actions that somehow help or improve our environment. Photographer may also introduce one’s ecological actions. There is one category, in which three pictures are given a prize.

Rules of the Competition

JÄLJILLÄ is an environmental photo contest. It is organized by Otsoni ry, the subject association for the students of environmental science and technology in the University of Jyväskylä. The contest is open to all students (with a student number) of the University of Jyväskylä. The board members of Otsoni ry are not eligible to participate. The contest period is 21.5.–21.9.2012.

The theme of the contest is ”small environmental action”. There is one category, in which five pictures are given a prize. Each participant can have only one picture among the prize-winners. Besides these five prizes, 20 pictures will be published as A2 or A3 prints on a photo exhibition in the lobby of the Main Library of Jyväskylä and in student cafeteria Ilokivi in October 2012. The photographers of these picture will get be awarded with the print of his/her picture after the Exhibition. The material may also be published in the web pages of Otsoni ry.

Both digital and traditional pictures are accepted. Digital photos must be sent in .jpg or .tiff –format and the shorter border must be at least 2300 pixels. Please use the best possible resolution when photographing. As for the traditional pictures or paper prints, the shorter border must be at least 14 cm. It is possible to send a picture with weaker quality for the Jury, if the better one is available for the prints. Each picture must have a name. One participant can send maximum of three pictures.

Please attach following information in the email or mail: the name, address, phone number and email address of the photographer/participant, the names of the pictures and the place(s) and time(s) of photographing. As for the digital versions please name the picture file as the name of the picture, or write the name at the back of the “traditional” picture. If you want the picture mailed back to you after the contest, please attach an envelope with your address and stamp.

The participation fee for one to three pictures is 5 €. The fee is paid to the bank account of Otsoni: 529002-2136897 with index number 1054 by the 21st of September. Please write ”photo contest” and the name of the participant in the message section.

One may only participate with the pictures (s)he has personally taken. The only photoshopping allowed are sharpening or shading. The picture may have been taken any time. The participants must have full rights to the pictures they send, and the possible people in the pictures must have been asked permission. The pictures that have been given awards in other contests or published in exhibitions or commercial means are not allowed. Otsoni ry has the right to publish the picture(s) in its webpages and in the exhibition in October 2012 without compensation. The photos may also be utilized in advertising the future photo contests organized by Otsoni ry. The organizer keeps the right to specify the rules.

The prize winners are decided by the Jury, that consists of the sponsors of the competition and (a) member(s) of the Board of Otsoni ry. The Jury has the right to exclude a participant that has violated the rules from the competition. One may not make a complain on the decisions of the Jury.

The results and winners of the competition are announced in the end of September, once the Jury has made the decisions. The prizes are distributed in the opening ceremony of the exhibition in October 2012.
